The Transylvania Times -

BHS Plans First Mystery Dinner Theatre

May 29, 2009

Murder, mystery and fun will abound Thursday, June 25, starting at 6:30 p.m. when Brevard High School presents their first ever Mystery Dinner Theatre "Fanfare to Murder."

The comedy murder mystery begins as Joanna Janeen, a young but fading starlet, hosts a party to celebrate her upcoming performance tour. Joanna has lured noted Hollywood producer, Toby Torleen, to attend in the hope of winning a leading role in his newest film.

Silly antics with the audience members, mistaken identities, unexpected surprises, and of course, murder prevail as the characters jockey for attention and stardom. When gruff Detective Grout and his overzealous assistant arrive, the zany antics escalate to a hilarious conclusion.

As dessert is served, the audience is invited to help quiz the suspects and reveal the murderer! The entertainment will conclude with comedy improv directed by former BHS student Zach Thompson.

The menu for the evening will be spaghetti with meat sauce, steamed vegetables, salad, garlic toast, and brownies. The evening is a benefit to help raise funds to send members of the BHS Thespian Troupe to the International Thespian Festival in Lincoln, Neb. during the last week in June.

Melanie Miller's sound design project won at the state level competition, and this qualifies her to present at the international level. This is the first time Brevard High School has had the privilege to advance to highest level of Thespian competition.

Tickets are on sale for $10 each in the BHS office during school hours or from advanced theatre students. For more information, contact BHS Theatre Department at 884-4103, ext. 802.
