Whitmire Gets Republican House Nod

TRANSYLVANIA, N.C. — In a tight race, current School Board Chairman Chris Whitmire beat Trudi Walend for the GOP nomination for the N.C. House District 113 seat.

The district is made up of Transylvania, Henderson and Polk counties. Districtwide, Whitmire received 6,339 votes (51.01 percent) to Walend’s 6,146 (48.99 percent).

In Transylvania, Whitmire received 2,913 votes to Walend’s 2,358, which was ultimately the difference in the final result.

Whitmire said Wednesday he was thrilled to have won in Transylvania County with “tremendous support.”
