Brevard College Signs Quintet Of Players For 2012
BREVARD, N.C. Brevard College Volleyball Coach Brenda Skeffington has announced Megan Clark, Kayla Hanus, Brittany Frost, Hannah Wertz and Mya Ovesen have committed to come to Brevard College and play for the Tornados in the 2012 volleyball season.
The quintet of athletes join early signees Taylor Moore, Camille Cameron and Karey Conner as a part of the 2012 volleyball class signed by Coach Skeffington.
Clark comes to Brevard from Lenoir and Catawba Valley Community College and Hibriten High School, where she lined up as an outside hitter under Coach Shannon Hudson. During her time at CVCC, Clark was an All-Region selection, ranking 10th in the nation in kills per set and fourth in the nation for aces in the NJCAA. She finished with 396 kills in her sophomore season. She received the Coaches Award, as well as MVP and Best Offensive Player at CVCC, and also earned the Academic Award.
Prior to CVCC, Clark was named County Player of the Year at Hibriten and was an All-Conference and All-County player, playing all four years on the Panthers’ varsity team. She was also a member of the National Honor Society all four years at Hibriten and was the Caldwell Scholar. She is the daughter of Kim Clark.
Frost comes to Brevard from Conyers, Ga ., where she lined up at outside hitter at Rockdale High School under Coach Stephen Sansing. She was a Team Captain on both of the Bulldogs’ JV and Varsity teams, earning MVP honors as well as the RCHS Bulldog Award. She was also selected as an All-Region Second Teamer as an outside hitter. She also participated on Rockdale’s Track and Field and Dance Teams, where she was named to the Regional team, going to both the Sweet 16 and the Elite 8.
In the classroom, Frost was recognized on the A/B Honor Roll and the Honor Roll with Distinction. She is the daughter of Rene Frost.
Hanus comes to Brevard from Kent, Wash. and Walla Walla Community College and Kentwood High School, where she lined up at setter under Coach Tim Toon. Hanus was an AVCA Second Team All-American at Walla Walla, earning East Region and NWAACC Setter of the Month honors. She was also a First Team NWAACC All-Tournament selection and an All-Conference Second Team choice. She was also named to the Sophomore All-Star team. In her final season at WWCC, she recorded 1,307 assists with 10.62 assists per game, 37 aces, 401 digs and 26 blocks. She is the daughter of Rob Hanus and Cathy Stansell.
Ovesen comes to Brevard from Stone Mountain, Ga ., where she lined up at outside hitter at Lakeside High School and the TCA Atlanta 18s Club Team. She also received the FCCLE Coaches Award. Her plans at Brevard include studying Environmental Science. She is the daughter of Kim and Svend Ovesen.
Wertz comes to Brevard from Roebuck, S.C. and Dorman High School, where she lined up at setter under Coach Paula Kirkland. She was a three-time All-Tournament selection and earned All-Region honors in her senior season. She was also a Team Captain at Dorman, as well as Captain of her Carolina One volleyball club team. During her senior season, Wertz recorded 299 set assists and 199 digs, serving at 97 percent for the year, while averaging 13 assists per match.
Off the court, Wertz served as a STARS reading program helper for the 2012 Special Olympics, and was recognized on the Honor Roll. She was also a member of the National Beta Club and the National Honor Society. She is the daughter of David and Michelle Wertz.
