ROSMAN, N.C. Four Rosman high school students were awarded scholarships to RYLA, the Rotary Youth Leadership Camp. The four lucky recipients were Kara Soltz, Emma (Kaitlen) Owen, Hanna Reese, and Hanna Sanders. They were awarded their prizes at the Awards Day presentation in the auditorium of Rosman High School on Monday, May 14.
The RYLA scholarships include an all expense paid week at summer camp on the campus of Brevard Music Center and Camp Greenville. The leadership camp teaches team building skills through outdoor activities such rappelling, Hiking, traversing a ropes course, swimming and raft building. They learn social skills at dances, a talent show, swimming, games and a formal dinner. Responsibility for the less fortunate is learned through community service projects. Time is also spent in hands-on leadership activities that are led by successful people in their fields.
The four Rosman recipients are high school students who have proven leadership potential and were chosen by their teachers, counselors and peers.
Rod Webb, chairperson of RYLA for the 7670 district said, “I am thrilled that we have four outstanding RYLA scholarship winners from Rosman for this year’s camp. These campers will enjoy meeting and interacting with other RYLA leaders from around our district.”
RYLA takes place from June 10-16 and is held at the Brevard Music Center. Anyone interested in this event or any Rotary event, go to brevardrotary.org or visit them for lunch on Tuesday at the College Walk Community Room.
