Busy Weekend Planned
BREVARD, N.C. — This weekend will be a busy one in Transylvania County, with three major events: the Memorial Day parade, graduation exercises for Brevard and Rosman high schools, and the White Squirrel Festival.
The 5th Annual Memorial Day Weekend Parade will be held at 9 a.m. on Saturday in downtown Brevard. American Legion Post 88 is again sponsoring the parade.
The parade’s grand marshal and guest speaker is retired U.S. Air Force Brig. Gen. George A. Gray III, a local resident.
Participants in the parade should gather between 8 and 9 a.m. at the Silvermont mansion parking lot on East Main Street.
The parade will end at Brevard College. After the parade, a “Day of Remembrance” ceremony will be held at 10 a.m. on the front lawn of the courthouse.
On Sunday, the American Legion Auxiliary will gather at 9 a.m. at Gillespie-Evergreen Cemetery on Country Club Road to honor local military personnel who died while in service. Poppies will also be distributed this weekend.
