Jack D. Cabe

Jack D. Cabe, 88, of Franklin, N.C., passed away Thursday, July 5, 2012. 

He lived in Transylvania County and was a N.C. Highway Patrol Officer there for 10 years.

A native of Macon County, he was the son of the late Fred D. and Jessie Sutton Cabe.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Joann B. Cabe; two daughters, Jan C. Moore and husband, Chris, and Laura C. McCurry and husband, Vernon; grandson, Corey McCurry and wife, Mandy; step-grandson, Shawn McCurry and wife, Elizabeth, and several nieces and nephews; his sister, Elizabeth C. Pearson, and brother, Larry Cabe and wife, Gaynell.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a sister, Mildred C. Perry, and brother, Charles Cabe.

He served his country in the United States Marine Corps, Pacific Theatre, in World War II for three years. He was chairman of the Macon County Board of Commissioners, served on the Social Service board and Parks and Recreation and Macon Program for Progress.  In addition, he served as chairman of the Macon County Democratic Party and Millshoal Precinct chairman. 

He was a member of First Baptist Church where he served on the board of trustees, was a member of Franklin VFW Post #7339 and Marine Corps League. He was a member of the Junaluskee Masonic Lodge for over 50 years and the Scottish Rite for over 50 years.  He served 35 years with the N.C. State Highway Patrol where he retired with the rank of major. He worked as administrative assistant in the District Attorney’s office for 10 years and then volunteered for a number of years with that office.

Funeral services were held Monday, July 9, 2012, at 2 p.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Jim Dusek and Rev. Robert Brown officiating.  Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery. North Carolina Highway Patrol Troop G Honor Guard will serve as pallbearers.

The family received friends from 1 until 2 p.m., one hour prior to the service, at the church.  N.C. Highway Patrol Troop G Honor Guard performed graveside rites.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the charity of one’s choice.

Rebecca S. Green

Rebecca S. Green, 57, of Saluda, passed away Monday, July 2, 2012, at her home. She was born May 16, 1955, in Brevard, to the late Ralph and Sybil Green.

She is survived by Glenn Collins; step-daughter, Megan Bullock; four step-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth Gauthier, Hazel Gravley and Faye Johnson; brothers, Robert Green and Tim Green and; three nephews and one niece.

A memorial service was held 2 p.m. Monday, July 9, 2012, at Thos. Shepherd & Son with Pastor Allen Martin officiating. Visitation was held one hour prior to the service, from 1-2 p.m.
