Joseph Coleman “J.C.” Owen

Joseph Coleman “J.C” Owen, 70, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, at The Oaks of Brevard.

A native of Transylvania County, he was the son of the late Fred and Nellie Wilde Owen. He was preceded in death by two infant brothers, Jimmy and Johnnie Owen, and a brother, Victor Owen.

He was a veteran of the United States Navy, a member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion, and was of the Baptist faith.

He was always helping people. He helped those who had been in a wreck or some other accident, the elderly with any home construction remodeling job at no charge, provided a meal for someone in need, or paid for the person’s groceries behind him in the line at the grocery store. He would want everyone to pay it forward.

Surviving are his sons, Kenneth Owen and financé, Bridget Stepp, and William Owen and wife, Teresa, of Black Mountain; brother, Michael Owen, of Lake Toxaway; sisters, Mildred Powell, of Rosman, and Jolene Woodward and husband, Richard, of Lake Toxaway; grandchildren, Brienna Berry and husband, Joey, Autumn Owen and finance, Forrest, Kelli Owen, Christina Powell and fiancé, Forrest, Dienna Reese, Zachary Hensley, Elyssa Reese, Cassidy Hensley, Sidney Hensley, Wesley Owen, Taylor Owen, and Sara Owen; great-grandchildren, Elijah Berry, Kyndall Fisher, Charlotte Berry, Shylee O’Shields, Easton Berry, and Lane Lee; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held Saturday, Aug. 17, 2013, in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Owen officiating.

Military rites were conducted by the Honor Guard for Veterans of Transylvania County.

The family received friends immediately following the service.
