William O. Moser

 


William O. Moser, of Brevard, died Aug. 20, 2013, at the Charles George VA Medical Center in Asheville. He was 83 years old.

Born Nov. 25, 1929, in Winston-Salem, N.C., he graduated from UNC Chapel Hill, and later earned an MBA from Wake Forest University. He served as a finance officer in the United States Army in Korea during the Korean Conflict from 1952 to 1954, and was awarded a United Nations Service Medal, a National Defense Service Medal, a Good Conduct Medal, a Korean Presidential Unit Citation, and a Korean Service Medal with one bronze star.

He married Brevard native, Sarah Jane McLean, in 1954. They made their home first in Greensboro, and later in Eden, N.C., where he was hospital administrator at Morehead Memorial Hospital.

In 1974 the Mosers moved to Brevard with their three children to live in Sarah Jane’s family home on McLean Road. Together they built and operated The Cheese Wedge and Keg Country Store and Soup Kettle Restaurant for many years.

He was a member of the board of trustees of Transylvania Community Hospital for 24 years, volunteered in many other civic organizations, and was a strong supporter of the Brevard Music Center.

He also earned his general contractor’s license and together with his son Scott, owned Moser Construction Company, building dozens of area homes.

Mrs. Moser passed away in 1990 and their eldest son, William Mark Moser, died in 2010.

Surviving are his daughter; Julie Moser Cooley, of Brevard, son, Scott McLean Moser; daughter-in-law, Sarah E Moser; grand-daughters, Jennie Eliza Moser and Anna McLean Moser, of Pisgah Forest, and a sister, Marion Irene Moser, of Butner, N.C.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013, at 11 a.m. at St. Philip’s Episcopal Church with Rev. Rob Field officiating.

A private family remembrance will also be held at St. Paul’s in the Valley Cemetery.
