Veterans Day Honors

This Veterans Day, which is always the 11th of November, the Transylvania County Honor Guard will pay respect to all veterans, past and present, by standing guard at the veteran’s memorial in front of the Transylvania County Courthouse and also at the memorial at the Rosman Town Hall.

Drive, bike, or walk by the Transylvania County Courthouse anytime from 8 a.m. until the last guard is off duty at 5 p.m. Guards were posted at the Rosman Town Hall from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. At both locations, TAPS were played at the 11th minute of the 11th hour on the 11th day of the 11th month.

Seek out a veteran and thank him/her for their service. Veteran’s Day isn’t about those who gave the ultimate sacrifice, it is about them and all the others who served to keep our country free.

All men and women who served over the years knew very well that once they put on the uniform of their chosen branch of the military, they could be called upon to risk their lives in the defense of our great nation.

There hasn’t been a draft of young people to serve since the Vietnam era; however, they continue to sign up, train and volunteer to go in harm’s way. While we can’t thank those who gave all, we can certainly thank all who gave some. Say thanks to a Veteran and then enjoy this special holiday with family and friends.
