Rick Wood, candidate for the North Carolina Senate, District 48, will be the guest speaker at the January 2014 meeting of the Transylvania County Democratic Men. The meeting will be at Pisgah Fish Camp, Thursday, Jan. 9, at 6 p.m.

President Jerry Beddingfield invites all democrats to attend and get to know this candidate. The 48th N.C. State Senate seat includes all of Transylvania County, Henderson County, and parts of Buncombe County.

Embroiderers’ Guild

The Laurel Chapter of the Embroiderers’ Guild of America will hold its monthly meeting Thursday, Feb. 6.

Sue Osterberg, a chapter member, will teach the techniques required to create a bracelet from buttons.

The meeting will be held at Cummings United Methodist Church, 3 Banner Farm Road in Horse Shoe. Registration is from 9:30-10 a.m. followed by a short business meeting and the program until noon. All are welcome.

WNC Knitters And Crocheters

The Western North Carolina Knitters and Crocheters for Others, Asheville’s charity knitting and crochet group, will meet on Monday, Feb. 10, 2014 at New Hope Presbyterian Church at 3070 Sweeten Creek Road.

The meeting runs from 7 p.m. until 9 p.m. All skill levels are welcome.

The next meeting of the Transylvania Republican Executive Committee is scheduled for Tuesday, Jan. 7, at 7 p.m. in the downstairs conference room in the Community Services Building located on Morgan Street in downtown Brevard. All Transylvania County Republicans are invited and encouraged to attend.
