Tony's Deli Owner Thanks TRH Staff With Complimentary Bagels – Brevard NC

Shortly before Christmas, Tony Duscio, owner of Tony’s Real Food Deli, did something real special for the staff at Transylvania Regional Hospital. He provided hundreds of bagels and a variety of cream cheese spreads for employees to drop in and enjoy in the hospital’s Carlson Conference Room.

“I just wanted to do something to say ‘Thank You’ for the wonderful care the hospital provided for my brother as he was valiantly battling for his life. During his last few weeks, he was pampered and treated with such love and compassion,” said Duscio. “This was a way I could let people know just how pleased my family and I are to know that we have such exceptional care available in our own backyard.

For Duscio, calling Transylvania County his “own backyard” is relatively new but extremely heartfelt. He and his wife, Lisa, moved to Brevard three years ago to help dear friends with a nonprofit called Inheritance of Hope.

“When we got here, my family and I fell in love with this area and the people. Never had we ‘met’ such a welcoming community,” he said.

A lifelong resident of New York, he had experience in the food business from the age of 9. Prior to moving here, the Duscios operated a bed-and-breakfast. Once they knew this was “home,” they decided to open a deli and offer New York-style fare, including bagels, deli sandwiches and homemade soups, as well as choices from the “Vegan Corner.” Located in the Chestnut Square shopping plaza near Walgreens, Tony’s Real Food Deli (tonysrealfood deli.com) is open for breakfast and lunch, 7 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

“On behalf of everyone at our hospital, I want to thank Tony for his kind gesture – and for the delicious bagels,” said Bob Bednarek, president and CEO of Transylvania Regional Hospital. “We are very proud of our skilled and dedicated staff. It’s always great to hear from those who appreciate the great job that our caregivers do and their willingness to go the extra mile.”
