Grimm To Lead Charter School – Brevard NC

Barbara Grimm

Brevard Academy: Challenge Foundation Academy last week voted unanimously for Barbara Grimm to become the school's new director.

"It wasn't an easy decision," said board chairman Frank Prince, who added that there were several candidates highly qualified for the job.

Grimm will replace current director Tony Helton, who has agreed to become the Southeast Regional Director for the Challenge Foundation (Team – CFA). Under Helton's leadership the past three years, the school's enrollment has increased to 218 students.

Grimm will assume her role as director beginning July 1.

Grimm has a master's and an educational specialist degree in educational leadership from Georgia Southern University, and has more than 26 years of experience in education. She was a founding board member of both Savannah Classical Academy and Oglethorpe Charter School in Savannah, Ga.

Savannah Classical Academy is a tuition free, charter school aligned with The Barney Charter School Initiative. The latter is a project of Hillsdale College to reform public education.

Oglethorpe Charter School is a middle school in Savannah, Ga. that was founded in 1999. According to the school's website, it is ranked 98 out of 478 middle schools in Georgia.

According to information released by the Brevard Academy Board of Directors, Grimm believes in bringing together community partnerships, parent involvement and teacher support to achieve the school's mission of "preparing its students to achieve excellence in higher education and in the world-at-large by providing an environment that fosters creativity and independent thinking."

Grimm and her family have been visiting this county for many years, and "look forward to joining" the community.
