The Transylvania Times -

Kudos To SAFE

The dedication and remodel of SAFE’s Stacey’s House and the new addition of a transitional house on July 23 was one of the most beautiful and inspiring I have ever seen.

First, a former client told the audience of her situation and the alcohol abuse from her husband. It was years of torment. She said, SAFE saved her life. She went back to school and now has a full time job.

Of the four children she has, the two younger ones are with her. She spoke with so much honesty and sincerity, never using a note, and as we listened we knew it was all from her heart. Her story was painful, but her gratitude for her experience with SAFE came again from the heart and kept the audience’s (about 125 people) full attention.

In 2008 shortly after the new shelter was purchased, it was named Stacey’s House (after my daughter) in my honor. Stacey was killed in a domestic attack by her partner.

On this day (July 23) Stacey was again honored with many kind of words from Salley Stepp and our guest speaker. I was overwhelmed and very grateful for these kind words.

Salley Stepp and the staff, the board, the architect and the builder have created a beautiful layout and professional design. All the furnishings of both areas have come from donations and Helen and her staff have decorated both areas to make them beautiful, tasteful and homelike.

My heartfelt thanks go out to Sally, the staff and volunteers who made Stacey such an important part of the event.

Kudos to all of you.
