The United States has by far the worst return on investment among industrialized countries when it comes to health care. The U.S. has a shorter life expectancy but pays higher per capita costs and spends a far greater share of gross domestic product (GDP) than at least 40 other industrialized countries.

The life expectancy in Hong Kong is 83.4 years but their per capita costs are $1,409 and the percentage of GDP spent on health care is 3.8 percent. Life expectancy in neighboring Canada is 80.9 years with per capita costs of $5,630 and its percentage of GDP spent on health care is 10.8 perc...
