Rosman Heritage Day On Oct. 4 Offers Many Activities

 

Rosman Heritage Day

Rosman Heritage Day will be held Saturday, Oct. 4, from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. Sponsored by the town of Rosman, the events will be held at the Rosman Town Hall.

Horace Jarrett will give an oral history of Rosman at 10:15. A Heritage Room will feature displays of Rosman history and local families. This area will be open all day.

There will be a special ceremony honoring the Rosman community's older citizens (ages 80 and above) at noon. A tribute to all veterans will be held at the Veteran's Monument at Town Hall prior to the Senior Citizens' recognition program. Also scheduled to perform throughout the day are two Civil War Re-enactment groups, the 2nd S.C. Rifles and the Calhoun Artillery. Music will be provided by the following: 10:30-11 a.m. The Rosman Three; 11 a.m.-12 p.m. and 4-5 p.m. The Sheltons (Frankie, Rob and Sandra); 2-2:30 p.m. Cheryl Teal; and 2:30-4 p.m. Joe Byers and the Smoky Mountain Cut-ups.

An auction, called by Berlis Owen, will be held from 12:45-2 p.m. The Hoodlum Cruisers Car Club will present a car show. A tractor display will be under the direction of Carmen West and Robin Crowe. Complimentary river raft rides will be provided by Headwaters Outfitters.

Walking tours of Rosman will be led and narrated by Rebecca Suddeth at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. Other activities will include face painting, barrel train rides, bounce house, balloon man and more than 20 vendors.

Food will include barbecue, hot dogs, pizza, breakfast items, including biscuits and gravy, funnel cakes, baked goods, cold drinks, and lemonade.

Two sports tournaments will be held in the afternoon. A horseshoe tournament will begin at 1 p.m. at Town Hall. A cornhole tournament will begin at 3 p.m. at Town Hall. Trophies will be presented at these events, and the winners' names will be announced in a ceremony at 5 p.m. at Town Hall.

A Veterans' Memorial Service will be held at 5:15 p.m. at the park area of Rosman Town Hall. The Honor Guard for Veterans of Transylvania County will be in charge of the program.
