Not too long ago, hog farms in North Carolina were owned by a farmer or his family. If someone had a disagreement with the nearby farmer, the two would attempt to resolve the issue themselves. If that did not work, the issue was then decided in the local courthouse.

Those days have all but vanished. Thousands of small, local farms have been consumed by large corporate operations – agribusiness.
