Woman Facing Drug Charges - Brevard NC

A Rutherford County woman is facing felony drug charges after a search of her vehicle led to deputies finding methamphetamine.

Leslie D. Austin, 27, was charged with possession of methamphetamine, possession of a schedule VI controlled substance and possession of drug paraphernalia on Nov. 22.

According to Transylvania County Sheriff’s deputies, Austin was sitting in a vehicle with a man shortly after midnight when a deputy on patrol spotted the vehicle parked in a picnic area located on U.S. 276.

The deputy pulled behind the car. When Austin and the other occupant, whose name was not released, opened the doors, the deputy said he could smell marijuana.

Lt. Kevin Holden and his K-9 Bosco searched the vehicle where they found a white powdered substance in a glass pipe, rolled up in a bandana.

A test later confirmed the substance to be methamphetamine.

Austin was taken to Transylvania County Detention center where she was later released after posting $6,000 bail.
