Winter Weather Causes Shuffling Of Schedules – Transylvania County NC

The blast of winter weather that hit last week and dumped between eight to 12 inches of snow across parts of Transylvania County also wreaked havoc on prep and college athletic events.

Several events were postponed, starting last Wednesday with Brevard College’s home double-header against Mars Hill.

That game was rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 1, with tip off times of 6 p.m. for the women’s game and approximately 8 p.m. for the men’s game.

The Tornados also had a road trip scheduled for Saturday against Lenoir-Rhyne which officials originally intended to make only to have the weather force another postponement.

Saturday’s game was rescheduled for Monday, Feb. 8, with tip off times of 5 p.m. for the women and 7 p.m. for the men.

The Tornados’ road games against Queens set for today were slated to go ahead as scheduled, with the women starting at 6 p.m. and the men tipping off at 8 p.m.

High school officials were also sent scrambling in the wake of the storm.

The Rosman Tiger basketball team had two road games scheduled last week – Thursday at Hayesville and Friday at Blue Ridge.

Both of those games were postponed. The Hayesville game will now be played this Saturday, Jan. 30, with regular tip off times.

The Blue Ridge game was rescheduled to Saturday, Feb. 6, with the jayvee boys’ tipping off at 2 p.m.

Brevard also had a road basketball game and home wrestling match – both against Tuscola – scheduled for Friday night.

Those events have both been pushed back to Wednesday, with their regular start times of 4 p.m. for jayvee girls’ basketball and 6 p.m. for wrestling.

In terms of events scheduled for this week, Brevard is set to host East Henderson in basketball while the wrestling team hits the road against the Eagles on Tuesday.

As of press time, the wrestling match was set to move ahead, but no official decision had been made regarding basketball.

Rosman is also slated to host Cherokee in wrestling and travel to Swain County for basketball on Tuesday.

Rosman officials said they would base their decision off whether or not school is held on Tuesday.

If school is held, both basketball and wrestling will move ahead as scheduled. If not, they will be postponed to a later date.

All sports events scheduled for this week can be seen in the Upcoming Events tab on the bottom right of this page.

The Transylvania Times will provide updates via its website as well as its sports Facebook page as soon as information regarding sports events becomes available.
