James Foster Sheafer

 


James Foster Sheafer, 83, of Brevard, passed away Thursday, March 17, 2016.

A native of Cleveland, Ohio, he was the son of the late Harley Foster and Edith May Walters Sheafer. In addition to his parents, his wife, Dorris Andersen Sheafer; his son, Steven Martin Sheafer; and his sister, Mickey Lyles, also preceded him in death.

An avid golfer and hunter, he was a veteran of the United States Navy, a member of the American Legion and loved spending time with his friends.

He is survived by his children, Stuart Harley Sheafer, of Asheville, Cylin Sheafer, of Brevard and Collin Sheafer, of Asheville; grandchildren, Jason Kane Shook and wife, Danielle, of Brevard, Jimmy Martin Sheafer, of Orlando, Fla. and Erin Lee Gaugh and husband, Chris, of Orlando; great-grandchildren, Jonas Shook, Ella Burnette and Oliver Gaugh; and sister, Frances Malkames, of Traverse City, Mich.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 23, 2016, at the American Legion Hall at 55 E. Jordan Street in Brevard. The Transylvania County Honor Guard and the United States Navy Reserves will perform military rites.
