The Transylvania Times -

Copelof Would Be Outstanding Representative

There is a well-known saying: all politics is local. This means a representative’s success is directly tied to the ability to understand and impact constituents’ issues in a political setting. This year there is a well-prepared candidate ready to fill this local role for N.C. House District 113: Maureen Copelof will be an outstanding representative for us in Raleigh.

Maureen knows her community. She has been actively involved in a range of activities, including the Transylvania County Planning Board where she helped identify constructive future directions for our county. She has committed time and energy to organizations that strive to improve life for our fellow citizens, including Free Rein serving special needs individuals and Transylvania NAACP working to open dialogue and promote equality for all. She is an active member of the Brevard AAUW providing scholarships for girls and women in our county.

Maureen is not just a member of these organizations – she is a leader in each. As a board member when she was AAUW president, I saw her leadership up close. She was

always organized, approachable and well-prepared, working hard in the trenches as well as leading our membership. When issues arose, she gathered facts and options and invariably led our group to a well-informed consensus. I am certain she will apply these same attributes as our N.C. House District 113 Representative.

Maureen displays a maturity and experience garnered over decades. Her 30-year career as a U.S. Navy officer combined with her masters’ degree in business administration provide a solid background for understanding and dealing with the complexities and politics in state government. I am confident she will use her hands-on knowledge of our community combined with her experience to fairly and intelligently represent the citizens of this district.

I urge you to vote for Maureen Copelof as our N.C. House District 113 Representative in November. We need her ability to understand and influence the issues affecting us, her constituents, in the years ahead.
