The final Transylvania County Historical Society Sunday program for the 2016 season will be "The Old Apple Cider Press" on Sept. 11 at 2 p.m. at the barn on the Allison-Deaver property in Pisgah Forest.

Those who grew up in the local schools in the 1970s may remember Tom Stroup's demonstrations of how cider is pressed from apples and its sweet full flavor. The Stroup family cider press, which is over 100 years old, will once again be pressed into action. Don, Tom and John Stroup will share a bit about the history and how the press works while grinding apples into cider.

Come out to learn about the working of an apple cider press and enjoy a sample of fresh cider with a cookie. Parking is available near Taco Bell in the Walmart lot.

The Allison-Deaver House is open on Saturday and Sunday afternoons from 1-4 p.m. Admission to the house and programs is free. The Transylvania County Historical Society greatly appreciates donations to support preservation and events throughout the year. Contact TCHS at [email protected] or (828) 884-5137.
