The Transylvania Times -

Qualifications And Experience Matter

Given the current state of escalating and ineffective partisan politics, it is critical that we as responsible voters in the coming November elections do more than simply determine a candidate’s party affiliation and vote along traditional Republican or Democratic party lines. It is essential that we investigate the candidates and weigh their qualifications — experience, maturity, and demonstrated leadership — before making the decision as to who would best represent our community’s interests.

Comparing the qualifications and accomplishments of the two candidates in the District 113 race for the state legislature, it is evident to us that Maureen Copelof is by far the most qualified of the two candidates.

Maureen is a retired U.S. Navy Captain who served our country for 30 years. During her military career she skillfully navigated bureaucracy while managing multimillion dollar budgets and leading large groups of diverse personnel. Her natural leadership capabilities and maturity enabled her to connect with people and succeed in varying assignments during her highly decorated career.

Since coming to Western North Carolina, she has used her leadership and organizational skills to serve our local community as a member of the Transylvania County Planning Board, as president of the local chapter of American Association of University Women, and as a Master Gardener and member of the Transylvania Garden Club.

Maureen has all the educational tools to make a difference in Raleigh. She has a master’s degree in political science from Auburn University and a master’s in business administration (MBA) from the University of South Carolina. Her opponent simply can’t measure up to these standards.

If you are ready to take a stand this November against the nonsense that is going on in Raleigh, then vote for the candidate with the qualifications and skills to properly represent us in the state assembly. Vote for Maureen Copelof this November.
