Brevard Man Charged With Passing Fake $100 Bills -Brevard NC

September 19, 2016

Police have a Brevard man in custody after fake $100 bills were passed in Brevard.

Randall R. Hooks, of 76 Trent Road, Apartment C, has been charged with felony possession of counterfeit instrument/currency.

According to police reports, Hooks, who is a former employee of the Brevard Huddle House, allegedly used a fake $100 to pay for a meal at the restaurant earlier in the day on Sunday. The $100 bill is a phony bill used on movie sets, with the words "For Motion Picture Use Only" on the front and back of the bill.

Police said Hooks returned to Huddle House later in the day and was denied use of the $100 bill by a server while attempting to pay for another meal. Hooks then allegedly walked outside and asked a bystander to break the $100, which the female victim obliged.

The female victim apparently noticed the markings on the bill later in the day and called police.

Police said the bills are easy to obtain and are available on websites.

Hooks was later taken to the Transylvania County Detention Center where he is being held in lieu of $10,000 secured bond and $6,000 unsecured bond.

Police said there may be more phony $100 bills being passed around and are urging the public to contact Brevard Police at (828) 883-2212
