Jarek Stewart Karolewics, a seventh grade student at Brevard Middle School, has figured out the perfect way to share his love of drawing with the community: he's organizing a drawing contest as part of the Halloweenfest celebration in Brevard.

"I want to support other kids in art," said 12-year-old Karolewics, who is hosting the contest for his seventh grade service project.

"I thought it would be fun because it's Halloween, and also because it's drawing, and that's my favorite thing to do," he said.

The contest will be held Oct. 29 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the top of courthouse hill. Judging will be from 4:15 to 5 p.m.

Winners will receive recognition in The Transylvania Times, and gift cards to Michaels Arts & Crafts: first place – $25, second place – $15, and third place – $10.

Contestants will be provided with colored pencils (made possible by The Transylvania County Arts Council), paper, and may enter in one of four categories: ages 4–6, 7–10, 11–15 and 16 and up
