Portions Of Old 64 To Be Closed – Brevard NC

November 14, 2016

Beginning today, Old Highway 64 will be closed from Osborne Road to Chestnut Street in Brevard as work continues on the replacement of sewer pipe in the area.

One lane of Neely Road will also reopen to through traffic on Monday.

From Monday through Jan. 20, the aforementioned section of Old 64 will only be open to local traffic and emergency vehicles.

From Jan. 20 through March 31, Old 64 from Wilson Road to Osborne Road will then be closed and only open to local traffic and emergency vehicles.

Osborne Road will also remain open to local and emergency vehicles during these times.

One lane on Neely Road will only be open for now while paving and cleanup work is done.

The City of Brevard has contracted with Hall Contracting, Inc., to do the work.

The work is part of the city’s $13.7 million Neely Road Pump Station and Equalization Project.

The project includes replacement of a 14-inch sewer force main from the Neely Road pump station, along Old 64 to eventually the city’s wastewater plant on Wilson Road.

The Neely Road pump station force main, one of 15 in the city, has experienced multiple structural failures in the past, leading to discharges of untreated wastewater and violation notices from the state.

While work is being done, local traffic and emergency vehicles are being asked to use extreme caution and observe all work-zone notifications.

Road signs, including road closure and detour routes, will be in place.
