Douglas William Barton, 72, of Cedar Mountain, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, Nov. 12, 2016, after having Parkinson’s disease for 12 years.

He was born Feb. 6, 1944. His parents, Arthur and Lucy Barton, preceded him in death.

He was a hardworking man that built his home in Cedar Mountain. He retired from DuPont after 28 years and was a member of Blue Ridge Baptist Church.

He loved spending time with his family, deer hunting on his mountain property in Cedar Mountain, Hiking the trails at DuPont Forest, blueberry picking at Shining Rock and tinkering with automobiles. He was always able to figure out how to fix anything.

Survivors include his wife of 52 years, Hilda Thomas Barton; his son, Tim, of Cedar Mountain; his daughter, Teresa Chamlee and her husband, Ken, of Mills River, and their children, Shane, Jeny and Casey Whitmire and Andrew Chamlee; his daughter, Tina Moore and her husband, Dan, of Huntersville, N.C. and their son, Danny; great-grandchild, Damian Whitmire; brothers, Jimmy, Charles and his wife, Cheryl, and Bill and his wife, Sharon; and sisters, Elaine Hunter and her husband, Kent, Phyllis Owen and her husband, Ted and Jean Snipes, who was preceded in death by her husband, Danny.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Monday, Nov. 14, 2016, at Moody-Connolly Funeral Home.

Rev. Roger Smith and Ted Owen at Blue Ridge Gardens of Memory will conduct private graveside services.
