The building going up beside the Ingles gas station in Brevard will be a Verizon Wireless retail store.

The 3,600-square-foot building will include architectural elements that compliment other buildings in the shopping center, according to Paul Ray with the city's Planning Department.

Parking and the public entrance will be to the building's rear, as will the public entrance to the building.

There will also be an front entrance off the Asheville Highway.

With new development like this, Ray said, the Planning Department strives to increase connectivity around town, in some form or fashion, with cooperation from the developer.

"In this case, the developer agreed to build a 5-foot-wide paved sidewalk to connect students from the college dormitories (behind the shopping center) to the front of their store on Asheville Highway, ending at the city's sidewalk system," Ray said. "This will increase safe pedestrian travel and encourage more people to walk or ride their bicycles for short shopping trips."
