January 12, 2017
Due to a water-line break at the Cedar Mountain House, residents at the assisted-living center were evacuated Monday afternoon.
At the request of Transylvania Emergency Management officials, the Asheville – Mountain Area Chapter of the Western North Carolina Region of the American Red Cross opened a shelter at the Transylvania County Recreation Center.
Thirteen of the roughly 32 residents impacted were taken to the shelter but by Monday evening they had been placed in various other assisted-living facilities, according to Jerri Jameson, a regional communications officer for the Red Cross.
The shelter was closed Monday evening. Of the other residents Monday afternoon, some were taken to the Kingsbridge House in Brevard, while others were picked up by family members. Cedar Mountain House is located opposite Sherwood Forest Golf Club off U.S. 276. As of going to press Wednesday afternoon, Cedar Mountain House didn't respond with any further information on the status of the residents or the facility.
