Barbara Joyce Stubbe

Barbara Joyce Stubbe, 77, died peacefully in her home Wednesday, Dec. 28, 2016.

Born Feb. 5, 1939, in Rosedale, N.Y., she was the daughter of Charles I. Duke and Adele L. Muller Duke.

She attended Central High School and was a graduate of Hofstra University. She married Richard J. Stubbe June 9, 1962, and lived in Wading River on Long Island, N.Y.

She was an elementary school teacher, a mediator, a notary public and worked in real estate.

In later years, she and Richard retired and moved to Pisgah Forest. She loved her life in the mountains and was very involved in her community.

She volunteered for the Democratic Party, served on the Land of Sky Regional Council on Aging and the Transylvania County Senior Citizens Council, and volunteered at Sharing House in Brevard.

In October 2015, they moved to Florida to move in with their daughter due to her terminal illness.

She led a very full life between traveling the world with her husband and spending time with her family. She was a very caring, generous and loving person with a great spunky personality.

She is survived by her husband, Richard J. Stubbe, of Sebastian, Fla .; her daughter, Pamela Carlson, also of Sebastian; her son, Douglas Stubbe and his wife, Lynn Stubbe, of Brookfield Conn .; and her five grandchildren, Adrien Carlson, Aleia Carlson and Lorelei Carlson, of Sebastian and Shannon Stubbe and Lyla Stubbe, of Brookfield, Conn.

Family and friends are cordially invited to gather and share memories with the family Saturday, Jan. 21, 2017, from 2 – 4 p.m., at 281 Lake Serenity Dr., in Pisgah Forest.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in Barbara's honor to: VNA and Hospice Foundation, 1110 35th Lane, Vero Beach, FL 32960.

The family wishes to extend their gratitude to the VNA of Indian River County for their support throughout her last year of life.
