To celebrate Women's History Month, members of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) Brevard Branch created and installed three displays in the Transylvania County Library. The theme of the displays was "Transylvania County Women in Business and Labor." Julia Kennerly, Retha Lynch, Ellen O'Brien and Linda Thompson researched women in local history who were known for their participation in health care, boarding houses and restaurants, the arts, commerce, local camps and industry. In addition, they also obtained business cards to use in the display which highlights some of the businesses along Main Street and Broad Street in Brevard that are owned or co-owned by women today. AAUW has been active in Brevard since 1955 and is pleased to represent the accomplishments of women in our area.
