Blue Devils Shutout At Tuscola

The Brevard Blue Devils’ bats never got rolling last Thursday as they mustered just one hit in a defensive struggle against Tuscola.

Starting pitcher Kyle Williams went the distance, giving up just a pair of runs in the bottom of the fourth, but that proved to be enough for the Mountaineers to take the 2-0 victory.

On the flip side, Nick Worrell pitched a gem for Tuscola, striking out 14 Brevard batters and giving up a lone single to Tanner Ellenberger in the second inning.

Brevard’s record currently stands at 6-5.

Monday’s game against Rosman was rained out. The Blue Devils host Pisgah on Tuesday and hosts Franklin on Friday.

Lady Blue Devils Go 1-2 In Road Games

After winning their fifth straight game on the road at Mountain Heritage last Thursday, the Brevard High School softball team dropped a pivotal conference game, 5-4, to Tuscola on Friday.

In the win over the Cougars, Sydney Gilbert led the way at the plate, going 3-4 with four RBIs.

Lauren DuBreuil was 2-4 and drove in two runs.

In Friday’s game, the Lady Blue Devils took a 3-2 lead after the first inning, but Tuscola chipped away over the remainder of the game, ultimately taking the one-run victory.

The loss snapped Brevard’s win streak and put them in a tie with Tuscola for third place in the WNC Athletic Conference.

Gilbert and Brooke Nanney both had one RBI on the day.

The Lady Blue Devils’ record is currently 9-2.

After Monday’s rainout, Brevard hosts first-place Pisgah on Tuesday and second-place Franklin on Friday.
