Judith Nebrig of El Centro chats with a prospective volunteer at last year's Volunteer Opportunity Fair.

United Way of Transylvania County (UWTC) invites the entire community to "find a good fit" at its upcoming Volunteer Opportunity Fair, Wednesday, April 19, from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. in the Rogow Room at the Transylvania County Library.

"Come meet agency representatives, learn who they help, and find out how to help them. It's a great way to connect your skills and interests with the important work being done by local nonprofits," said Colin Kirkman, TRAIN specialist for United Way of Transylvania County.

The Volunteer Opportunity Fair will showcase more than 20 agencies and coalitions serving Transylvania County. The goal is to link volunteers of all abilities, schedules and interests with opportunities to help make a real and positive difference in the community.

Agency representatives at the fair will demonstrate how to access and navigate the VolunteerTransylvania. org website. Agencies regularly update specific volunteer opportunities on the website.

"People can volunteer behind the scenes, on the front lines, from home, with a single agency or with several, part of the year, or all year long. There are so many different ways to contribute. This county has a tremendous resource of engaged, caring people who are looking for ways to give back," Kirkman said.

Volunteers of all abilities and skill levels can 'find a good fit' through http://www.VolunteerTransylvania.org. People with limited mobility or unusual work schedules can use the website to volunteer from home doing technical support, item assembly, or other tasks.

Participating agencies include: American Red Cross, Augustine Literacy Project, Brevard/Transyl-vania County Visitor Center, El Centro Comun-itario Hispano-Americano, Free Rein Center, Friends for Life Forever Farm, Girl Scouts Peaks to Piedmont, Camp Pisgah, Guardian Ad Litem, The Hunger Coalition, Land of Sky Regional Council, Meals on Wheels, Neighbors in Ministry/Rise & Shine, SAFE, Seniors' Health Insurance Information Pro-gram (SHIIP), The Cindy Platt Boys and Girls Club, The Sharing House, The Haven, United Way of Tran-sylvania County, and Western Carolina Comm-unity Action (WCCA).
