James Michael "Mikey" Furgerson

James Michael Furgerson, "Mikey," 29, of Sapphire, was born Oct. 1, 1987 in Brevard. He left behind many that loved and cared for him on April 15, 2017.

He was a very loving, kindhearted young man who would help anyone in need. He was a very responsible, levelheaded and hardworking young man. He had a spontaneous nature about him when he was free to show it.

He loved riding his four-wheeler and hot rodding in a 1968 Ford truck that he and his father had built together. He was a very adventurous person that was up for all types of fun.

He enjoyed his line of work as a heavy equipment operator and was talented and humble enough to learn the wisdom and advice of older co-workers. He was also talented in many other trades and skills, but could take a moment to stop and enjoy the beauty of God's work in nature as well.

He is preceded in death by his paternal grandmother, Louise Furgerson Kelly, of Evarts, Ky .; and his maternal grandfather, Robert Clarence Franks, "Papa," of Pickens, S.C.

He leaves behind his mother and father William "Willy" and Sandra Furgerson, of Sapphire; two siblings, whom he loved very much, Joshua Thomas, of Pisgah Forest, and Wendy Thomas, of See-Off Mountain; maternal grandmother, Martha Franks Turner, "Nanny"; his aunts, Shelia Queen, Renà Ayers (Doug) and Tracey Ball, Lisa Davis (Glen), Cheryl Fox (Jim) and Teresa Shireman; uncle, Richard Franks; also, many other cousins and friends who loved and adored him very much.

The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 22, 2017, in the Moody-Connolly Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.

Burial will be in Montvale-Whitewater Cemetery in Sapphire.
