Russell W. “Bill” Binder went to be with his Lord Jesus June 10, 2017, while a patient at Four Seasons Elizabeth House. He resided in Sweetwater Hills with his devoted wife, Rebecca.

He was born Feb. 27, 1925 in Hackensack, N.J. to Russell L. and Dorothy H. Binder. He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Virginia Bellinger.

He attended Hackensack High School and the onset of World War II, he enlisted in the United States Army, married his high school sweetheart, Ruth Scholtes, and proudly served in the European Theater.

He and his first wife celebrated 49 years together before her death in 1992. They had three daughters and four sons, Janet Arwe Salkeld and husband, James, of Hendersonville, Linda S. Armston and husband Greg, of Manahawken, N.J., Nancylee Salerno, of Plantsville, Conn. (deceas-ed), William S. Binder and wife, Barbara, of New Milford, Conn., Scott A. Binder and wife, Sue and Carl H. Binder and wife, Joanne, both of Jacksonville, Fla. and Todd R. Binder and wife, Donna, of Central Valley, N.Y .; and was blessed to have 20 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.

During his working career as a mechanical engineer, he enjoyed many years with Smythe Mfg., Doubleday, Holson and Lederle Laboratories in the Connecticut/New York area before retiring to Hendersonville in 1991.

In 1997, he married Rebecca McCall Rogers, of Brevard and in doing so, gained another dear daughter, Barbara McCrary and husband, Gene, of Brevard, two more grandchildren and two more great-grandchildren.

He will always be remembered for his faith, determination, hard work, resourcefulness and most of all, his love for his family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Alliance Church in Laurel Park at a date to be decided by the family.
