Historian Moore To Speak Friday Night In Brevard - Brevard, NC

August 10, 2017

Professor Deborah Dash Moore will be speaking at the Jewish congregation’s weekly meeting Friday, Aug. 11, at 8 p.m. in Brevard’s Sacred Heart Catholic Church following the 7:20 p.m. congregational service.

Moore is a distinguished historian, prolific author and popular speaker who has written and edited more than a half dozen books on the American Jewish experience in the 20th century. She also co-authored with Professor Howard Rock‘s “Cityscapes,” a history of New York which wove together the rich history of New York with engravings, paintings, maps and photographs.

Moore is the G. L. Huetwell Professor of History and Judaic Studies at the University of Michigan. In her first book, “At Home in America,” she described how the children of Jewish immigrants brought together elements of Jewish and American culture, creating a vibrant urban society. In her work that followed she has explored the achievements as well as the physical, emotional and spiritual conflicts that came from blending those two traditions, particularly in her book “GI Jews: How World War II Changed a Generation.”

The title of her talk is: “Inventing American Jewish History.”
