United Way of Transylvania County's TRAIN (Transylvania Resource Access and Information Network) will offer "Increase Your Reach through Marketing and Public Relations: Strategies for Nonprofits" on Wednesday, Sept. 13, in the Rogow Room of the Transylvania Public Library. The event begins at 9 a.m. and ends at 1 p.m.

Presenters will share expertise on how agencies can better inform the public about the work they do. Drew Baker, assistant professor of business and organizational leadership at Brevard College, will open the workshop with "Principles of Marketing in 50 Minutes."

A panel discussion, led by local writer Paul Morgan, will feature advice from Baker, Leann Lindsey of Allegra Brevard, Don DeBiase of WSQL Radio, and a representative from The Transylvania Times. Aaron Wesley Means of Activate Business Solutions will address integrated marketing in "The Power of Your Online Presence."

Attendees will be working toward:

•Connecting more deeply with existing supporters

•Casting a wider net for new supporters

•Communicating mission, goals, and needs compellingly

•Standing out in a competitive landscape.

Agency staff members are encouraged to bring interested volunteers to the workshop to build overall agency capacity. Agencies should register in advance at http://conta.cc/2hHIWB9, or call 883-8822 or email UnitedWayTRAIN@comporium.net for more information.

TRAIN's Educational Series provides local agencies with training and information they might not readily access independently. The first offering was a free grant-writing workshop in April 2017, designed to help organizations bring money in from outside the county. It was presented in collaboration with the Transylvania County Library, which provides online access to The Foundation Center. Thirty attendees from 24 agencies & organizations learned how to identify funding prospects, optimize their database search and implement best practices in grant writing.
