The Transylvania Times -

Gary Sizer To Discuss Adventures On The AT - Brevard, NC

September 11, 2017

The 2017 Bag Lunch Arts Series continues in September with “The Trail is Full of Surprises: An Appalachian Trail Adventure” presented by author and hiker Gary Sizer. The program begins at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 19, in the Rogow Room at the Transylvania County Library and is made possible by the Friends of the Library.

In 2014, Gary Sizer completed a life changing journey when he spent half a year Hiking the Appalachian Trail, over 2,000 miles from Georgia to Maine. Sizer will share an hour’s worth of stories, photos, laughs and inspiration, drawn from his experiences living among nature.

Sizer hails from Asheville, leads workshops on respecting the wilderness, tells stories for NPR’s “The Moth” and his book, “Where’s the Next Shelter?” is a best-selling travel and adventure book.

He’ll discuss the transformation long distance hikers undergo, both inside and out; inspiration and kindness found at the most unexpected times; strange habits and traditions, old and new; and more than a few funny stories. His book will be available for sale and signing following the program.

The Bag Lunch Arts Series is sponsored by the Friends of the Transylvania County Library. Proceeds from Friends’ memberships, the annual book sale, and from book room sales help pay for all of the programming at the Library. There is never a charge to attend programs and the public is invited to bring along a bag lunch to enjoy during this presentation. Refreshments for Bag Lunch are provided by the Friends and include cookies and coffee from Blue Ridge Bakery.
