Charles Clayton Moore, a 67-year-old Sapphire resident, has been indicted for two counts of first-degree sexual offense with a minor and seven counts of taking indecent liberties with a child.

"He's still under investigation, so there may be additional charges that follow, but we don't know that for sure," said District Attorney Greg Newman. "The Transylvania County Sheriff's Department is still pursuing leads."

Newman said there are three juvenile victims identified.

With a first-degree sex offense count, the maximum sentence is life without parole, Newman said.

"I'm not saying he will get that, but it's very serious," Newman said.

Moore is scheduled to appear in Transylvania County Superior Court on Oct. 12, and is currently being held on a $220,000 bond.
