Series To Focus On Family Fitness Fun - Brevard, NC

On Monday, Sept. 25, from 5:30-7 p.m. at the Transylvania County Library, the Family Support Committee will host Family Fitness Fun, where speaker and owner of Outdoor Fitness Brevard, Amanda Chalifour, will show families how to turn fitness into a fun family adventure.

This event, a program of the Family Dinner Series and supported by the Early Childhood Initiative, is geared towards families with children ages 2-10. A free, taco dinner will be served from 5:30-6 p.m. At 6 p.m. Chalifour—also a personal trainer who has worked with a wide range of folks from kids at a weight loss camp to the elderly — will lead a variety of activities, games and exercises.

This event is free and open to the public. Child care will be provided for children who may not be able to participate in the physical activities.

The Family Support Committee, spearheaded by County Commissioner Page Lemel, is composed of a variety of agencies and organizations, including The Children’s Center, Transylvania County Library, Mountain Sun Montessori School, The Family Place, Mountain Roots, SAFE Inc., Connect, Dalton Pediatric Therapy, The Haven and the CARE Coalition.

•Monday, Oct. 23 - “Parenting.”

•Monday, Nov. 27 - “Hidden in Plain Sight” regarding red flags of teenage drug and alcohol.

•Monday, Jan. 22 - “Mental Health and Suicide Prevention.”

•Monday, Feb. 26 - “The Birds and the Bees” regarding how to have conversations with your children about healthy relationships, consent, and sexuality.

•Monday, March 26 - “Summer Happenings.”

•Monday, April 23 - “Community Crock” regarding learning how to plan, shop, and prepare healthy and economical family meals.

•Monday, May 21 - “Tech Savvy Parenting.”
