The Rotary Club of Brevard has been busy and plans to continue right into October.

Howard "Sarge" Thiele of the Transylvania Honor Guard spoke to the club recently about the importance of the Honor Guard. The group is comprised of veterans from all branches of the military and their mission is to provide the appropriate military funeral service to all their brothers and sisters who have served this country in times of war and peace at no cost to the family.

Continuing on community service, the speaker for Tuesday is Mary Beth Burns from Hendersonville Rotary who will be discussing that topic. Brevard Rotary is big on service for Brevard. Recently two of the club's members, Davis-Whitfield Cargyle and Joe Alexander, delivered dictionaries to local elementary schools. Brevard Rotary is proud of its many successful, community minded projects including RYLA-Rotary Youth Leadership Awards Camp, Youth Exchange Program and Back Pack Buddies The club also sponsors three road races annually and donates generously to many local charities.

Something new on deck is the Rotary social. The first one will be held on Oct 5 at 5:30 p.m. at The Phoenix and the Fox restaurant. Hors d'oeuvres will be provided by owner and the newest member of the Brevard Rotary Club, Joe Alexander. The meeting is for anyone interested in learning more about Rotary and just having fun with other Rotarians.

Last but not least for October is the annual Flight of the Vampire race on Oct 28 at 9 a.m. Races of 1, 5 and 10K will be run and costumes are encouraged. Join in the fun.

The Rotary Club of Brevard is a group of business-minded professionals and community caring individuals. The public is always invited to join in their weekly meetings on Tuesday at the Phoenix at noon. For more information, go to http://www.brevard.rotary.org.
