I Have A Plan

October 2, 2017

I have been reading all of the opinions, support, arguments and positive and negative things that are being said about the NFL, players, owners and even the commissioner. It all revolves around “taking a knee” during the national anthem.

I am a retired Army veteran and while some of the rhetoric is entertaining and sometimes frustrating, I feel I must say a little bit about how I feel.

The military of our great nation has served during war and peace throughout the history of our country. One of the many things the military has protected aside from life and limb is the Constitution of the United States of America. One of the amendments, the First, simply guarantees all citizens the freedom of speech. In other words, I don’t have to agree with how you feel, I just have to be willing to die to protect your right to speak your mind.

I will make this as short as possible. I most certainly am going to watch any and all the football games I can this coming weekend. During each game I intend to write down the names of all the sponsors that advertise during all of the commercial breaks. Then I won’t just give up football as a sign of protest. No, I intend to boycott the entire NFL and all of their sponsors, which runs the gamut from fast food, insurance, clothing, medications, autos and the list goes on.

How dare they pay disrespect to the American flag! I bet they would feel differently if they were ever handed a folded flag.
