The Transylvania Times -

Local NAMI Chapter To Host Family Crisis Panel On Oct. 24 - Brevard, NC

October 12, 2017

In holding NAMI (National Alliance on Mental Illness) “Family-to-Family” over the years, we’ve met many participants who have wanted to be part of the treatment team for their loved ones.

This can be challenging if the one who has a mental illness is reluctant to talk to anyone other than the professional. Family members are also unsure about the privacy laws.

There are ways for the family to be part of the solution, and these will be addressed in a panel presentation HIPAA and the Family Crisis – Teamwork within the Mental Health Care System – co-sponsored by NAMI-TA, and the Behav-ioral Health Department of Transylvania Regional Hospital.

The panel will be held in the Carlson Conference Room, Transylvania Reg-ional Hospital, at 6 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 24. Panel members include James Wright, M.D., Transylvania Regional Hospital Emerg-ency Department; C. Britt Peterson, M.D., Transyl-vania Regional Hospital, Psychiatry; Judith West, ACSW, LCSW, Sylvan Valley Counseling; and Emily Townes, MS, LPC, Brevard Health Center. Moderator is April Pryor, MS, LPC – program coordinator, Fresh Start Behavioral Health Structured Outpatient Program.
