Leaf Report

The fall color can still best be viewed along the Blue Ridge Parkway at the higher elevations.

Autumn colors can also be see in DuPont State Recreational Forest this week.

The rain from tropical depression Nate should help the colors.

The dominant color is yellow, with lots of oranges and reds below 5,000 feet.

The colors are expected to really be vibrant in Transylvania County by the end of the month.

Experts say due the temperature fluctuations and rain amounts forecasting has been difficult this year. They still expect spectacular viewing, however.

Stay tuned.

Appalachian State University's Biology Department has produced a fall color map that may be seen at http://www.biology.appstate.edu.
