Leaf Report

Fall colors are expected to be vibrant this weekend along the Blue Ridge Parkway.

Lower elevations are still waiting to fully explode with color.

The peak season for color in the French Broad River valley is typically by the end of the month

As previously reported, however, Howard Neufeld, an Appalachian State biology professor, who is also known

as the "Fall Color Guy," doesn't believe this will be a "great" fall color season this year.

The warmer weather prior to the beginning of this week has impacted the leaves, with many falling before

turning, he said.

Appalachian State University's Biology Department has produced a fall color map that may be seen at http://www.biology.appstate.edu.
