The Transylvania Times -

Bag Lunch Series To Offer Holiday Music - Brevard, NC

December 4, 2017

The 2017 Bag Lunch Arts Series concludes in December with two Bag Lunch programs on Dec. 5 and 19 starting at noon in the Rogow Room at the Transylvania County Library. Bag Lunch programs are made possible by the Friends of the Library.

On Tuesday, Dec, 5, the Blue Ridge Ringers return for a holiday concert. The group was founded in 1995 and is in its 22nd year of performing for audiences each May and December. Robert Currier of Brevard is the group’s music director, Karen Grady, assistant music director, and Connie Engle, founder and managing director. The members of the group ring on five octaves of Malmark hand bells and Malmark hand chimes.

Then, on Tuesday, Dec. 19, Musicke Antiqua returns to present their holiday program. The ensemble will play a wide variety of music, some of which has been popular since ancient times, while other tunes are more contemporary. The group performs in costume on replicas of a wide variety of early musical instruments, including seven sizes of recorders, double reed instruments, strings and percussion. Musicke Antiqua formed in Brevard in 2001.

Both programs are made possible by the Friends of the Library. Proceeds from Friends’ memberships and from book sales help to pay for all of the programming at the library. There is never a charge to attend programs and the public is invited to bring along a bag lunch to enjoy during the presentations. Refreshments include cookies and coffee from Blue Ridge Bakery and also are made possible by the Friends of the Library.
