Waterfall Arts Brings Visual Art To Silvermont Center

January 1, 2018

A scene from the animated feature "Window Horses: The Poetic Persian Epiphany of Rosie Ming" depicts Rosie dreaming about a trip to Iran.

Silvermont Opportunity Center (SOC) will present the first of several arts sessions by Waterfall Arts. Join facilitator Connie Donaldson on Thursdays from 1:30-3 p.m. beginning Feb. 1 for "Four Weeks to Freeing the Artist Within."

The older adult community at Silvermont Opportunity Center showed an overwhelming desire for more visual arts at the senior center during the member/non-member survey this past September.

During this creative four-week session, explore the theory that there are as many pathways to creating art as there are individuals. Participants will learn what speaks to them, experimenting with the basics - line, color, texture, shape - in playful and often unexpected ways. These classes are about process, not product. Beginners are welcome, and experienced artists may gain a stimulating recharge or new direction to explore.

Most materials will be provided. The cost for this class is $45, which includes the cost of supplies. To register, call the front desk at SOC at 884-3166 or email [email protected] for more information.

Donaldson is a Brevard artist, writer and creative facilitator whose passion is helping others rediscover and access their innate creativity. As a therapist specializing in codependency and women's issues, Donaldson has led numerous groups and workshops in the Jacksonville, Fla. area, and her art has been featured in galleries in Jacksonville, St. Augustine and Texas. Her colorful work in oil, acrylics and watercolor celebrates the relationship between nature and women.

Silvermont Opportunity Center is a senior activity center with no membership fees. SOC strives to invigorate and enhance the quality of life for adults ages 60 and older in Transylvania County. Located in Brevard at 364 E.
