This week's Outdoor destination is the Park at Flat Rock.

Formerly a golf course and crop fields, this small park packs a lot to do in a small amount of acreage.

With its own nature center, walking trails, pond, wooded areas and state-of-the-art children's playground, this little park is worth the 25-minute drive from Brevard.

There is little elevation in the park, so if Hiking up steep hills isn't your thing, check out the Ed Lastein trail, which should take most people about 30 minutes to walk, with other loops that connect in the park branching off it.

You can't get lost in the park, and there is something to do for all ages. It is a pet friendly park, but dogs must

be leashed.

Getting There:

From Brevard, take Old Hender-sonville Highway to Everett Road to Crab Creek Road. Take Crab Creek Road to Erkwood Drive. Make a right here and follow it about a mile and intersect Greenville Highway. Make a left on North Highland Lake Road and the park will be on the left.
