Gary Greene To Retire From B-DRP Church

January 4, 2018

Gary Greene, who has served Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church for eight years, will retire early in January 2018. Gary will speak at the 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m. worship services on Jan. 7 in a meditation titled, “And in Conclusion, I Would Like to Says…”

A reception in his honor will be held after the 11 a.m. service that day.

Greene was born in Missouri and received a degree in history from the University of Missouri. He went on to earn a Master of Divinity degree from Duke University and moved to North Carolina after graduating from Duke. Greene served several churches in Western North Carolina as pastor, primarily in the field of Christian education, working with children, youth and families.

He has been as professional storyteller for many years, and has worked as a storyteller for the Asheville-Buncombe County Library System and in the Children’s Department of the Transylvania County Library.

Greene has been on the staff of Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian since 2009, first as part-time director of Youth and Children’s Ministries, and then full time as director of Family Ministries. He has worked with children and youth in Sunday school as well as in the pre-school, Vacation Bible School and the church youth group. Greene has also been Liturgist for weekly church services.

When asked about Greene’s service to the church, Dr. Keith Thompson, B-DRPC pastor, said, “Gary Greene has been an invaluable asset to this church in a variety of ways. His gifts as a storyteller and musician have blessed our entire congregation, especially the children. His work with youth has been faithful and effective, and his Sunday morning prayers have added depth and meaning to our worship services. Gary is a beloved colleague and friend, and while he will be missed, we are grateful that he, Gretchen and Ezra will remain a part of our congregation and community.”
