Donate An Organ

April 12, 2018

Recently I have seen signs on cars where people in desperate need of a kidney for themselves or a loved one are riding around with them on their cars. I recently saw one on a car at the hospital that read “Seven year old needs kidney. O+ blood type call (828) 384-9249.”

Over three years ago I was fortunate enough to receive a kidney transplant from my brother. I was on dialysis for about a year prior to receiving the transplant.

My brother was overweight and had to lose 50 pounds. He knew he could do it and he lost the weight over about a three month period of time. He saved my life and he indicates it saved his. He has not put the weight back on and has more energy than he ever had.

With most kidney donors your one kidney becomes so strong that your kidney function is close to what it was with two kidneys.

A kidney is the most common organ that you can donate while you are living. You can live with one kidney and some people are only born with one kidney.

Advances have now been made and parts of the lung, liver and pancreas are being transplanted from living donors. All major religions accept organ donation.

Becoming an organ donor only takes a few minutes to do online. You can do this by going to Donate Life North Carolina. I encourage everyone to take a few minutes and do this because you never know if you will be the one that is in need of a transplant.
