Smoky Offense Powers Mustangs Past Lady Blue Devils

April 12, 2018

Brevard goalkeeper Kaitlyn Jennings tries to collect a loose ball among the madness in front of the goal during the first half of the Lady Blue Devils' Tuesday home match against Smoky Mountain.

Playing in just their third home game of the season, the Brevard Lady Blue Devils faced a mighty task Tuesday night as they took on the Smoky Mountain Mustangs.

And while Brevard was able to keep things close in the early going, a pair of late first half goals followed by four more in the second half gave Smoky the 7-0 win.

The Mustangs struck early, scoring in the first 10 minutes of the game.

Reagan Eggleston spent most of her time against the Mustangs in an attacking position. Unfortunately, Brevard wasn't able to put together many attacks, as they lost by a final of 7-0.

They held possession in Brevard's half and put together numerous scoring opportunities, including several loose balls in front of the goal that resulted in a mad scramble among defenders and the Brevard goalkeeper.

Smoky finally doubled their lead off a defensive miscue and scored just before the halftime horn sounded on a long free kick.

The second half was more of the same, as Smoky continued to dominate possession.

Brevard's defense tried to hold the lines, but the Mustangs broke through, scoring three goals in a matter of minutes to pull away.

Another goal later in the half gave Smoky the touchdown advantage.

The loss drops Brevard to 4-4 on the year and 0-3 in the Mountain Six Conference.

The Lady Blue Devils travel to Hendersonville on Thursday before hosting Chase on Friday.
